Snow Day Blog
On a “snowmageddon” day when my appointments have cancelled, I am grateful for time to reflect on several moments in the last couple days that replenished me with peaceful and inspirational energy. Where do you find moments of positive energy to carry you through the week? I find them often amongst our four legged beings and in nature.
One moment started with a large, growling dog that “did not like vets” but otherwise was “very sweet”. I am presented with this scenario quite often and navigating between keeping everyone safe and taking the opportunity to make a connection can be a bit tricky. In this case, my heart was full when, after some time, the dog wiggled up between my legs and happily licked me as I sat quietly and her owner exclaimed, “She has never acted like that with a vet before!”. I can picture that dog’s face right now, trusting me despite her vulnerability, allowing me to finish my exam, and filling me with joy for showing me her “sweet” side. It is so important for me to recognize these moments because days at the clinic are more often difficult because I empathize so much with the pets who are fearful but still must be restrained and treated. I don’t always reach this point with fearful dogs, but these are the moments I use to replenish my positive and patient energy so I can keep reaching for that connection whether it be at work or throughout my day.
Are you frustrated with the negative interactions that you must have with your pet such as giving medications, flushing ears, or even the cost of their care? Make sure you recognize the moments that your pet brings you joy, and reflect on those moments, and allow them to replenish your positive energy and improve your well-being.
